Profile:
Gerald is the groupwide graphic designer technician for Advance Strategies based out of the HOK Houston office. He is part of the marketing team and is responsible for ensuring the brand and graphic standards are the way they should to be. He pretty much makes things prettier.
He was born in Michigan, but his parents hated the debilitating cold cold weather of the NCR, so after a year they moved to the energy capital of the world, Houston and has lived there ever since.
Gerald graduated from the University of Houston (go coogs!) majoring in graphic design with a minor in marketing. When not at the Williams Tower, he likes to endulge himself in miscellanous design related activities, museum going and eating.
One of his pet peeves are the double spacing after a period. It's just old school.

Ice cream is always a treat. Ice cream at the workplace is even a sweeter treat. I had ice cream and i’m pretty sure a good number of us at the office had ice cream too.
Fortunate for us, our building’s property management company, Hines, hosted an ice cream social for all the tenants during lunch time for those passing through the lobby. There were four individual umbrella-ed Blue Bell ice cream kiosks manned by four ice cream connoiseurs and tables lined up with a buffet of toppings to pile up on top.
Judging by the turnout, it was a success. People were socializing, mingling, enjoying their creamy treats and taking a breather from their daily schedule. What i take from this is:
People really like ice cream.
Ice cream brings people together.
Ice cream made me feel good and jolly for the afternoon.
Breaks from the daily schedule allows one to unwind, for a little bit.
A quick thought, aside to providing the customary coffee and tea bars, maybe ice cream machine or frozen yogurt bar would be an interesting add to one’s office space. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. I can only dream, but it sounds like a nice idea.
I think i’ll be bringing in some ice cream to the office in the future. If you’re in Houston and nice i’ll share.

When driving to the office, overtime everyone develops their own set of best practices and habits which help streamline arriving and leaving from the office. Getting to the office without any traffic issues and or having a stress free drive helps start the day on the right foot.
But this week i’ve had two interesting incidents with driver x vying for the same spot which left me irked to start the day. I’m not one of those people who park in the first open space. I’ve strategically picked out specific spots to where i want to park. I have my option A, B and C-they all consist parking next to walls to minimize scratches and dings. With my option A spot, it’s a friendly battle ground to get to the spot first, but I sware, if car x arrives the same time and i’m right behind, the other driver x will deliberately take option A spot. Normally, if the car x arrives first they may or may not take my option A spot. Car x is definitely aware of my fondness of this spot. It’s kinda annoying, but hey it’s not a reserved spot and it’s on a first come first serve basis thus leading me to option b or c. In the end, it’s a friendly battle at who gets it, gets it.
My situation reminds me of the car ongoing feud between Mr. Bean’s vs. the Blue Three-wheeled Car sans the road rage:

It’s Friday!!! Here’s some videos to get you through the day.
It’s snowing outside. I’m really surprised. For some of those who are reading this you are probably thinking: “So what? It snows where I work all the time.” That’s cool, but the catch is – i am in Houston.
Here, it rarely drops down to the 30s let alone snows. OK, maybe it might snow but for a couple of hours at most if ever. It did exactly that one day last year, but today is a different story. It’s an amazing sight to see this much coming down, this from someone who’s always lived through the tv and movies to experience snow. It’s also distracting just watching by my office window. I had to go down and satisfy my photo cravings of this rare event.
The local meterologists said to expect temperatures in the high twenties and low thirties and a possiblity 3-5 inches of snow today before the work day ends for Houston and surrounding areas. If it keeps snowing at this rate the weathermen might actually be right.
I should have worked at home today and connected via the vpn to access my files, rather than risk being stuck in the area or risk navigating the roadways home with panicking inexperienced drivers at the end of the day. Oooh I really should have.
