A Day in the Life of a Home-based Worker

I inch out of bed and slowly head downstairs to start breakfast. I’m the designated breakfast chef for our family of five. My oldest is in the shower. Everyone else is still sleeping. The sun’s just coming up; the griddle’s getting warm; it’s a beautiful morning.
6:20 AM
The scrambled eggs with diced ham and a little onion are sizzling in the pan. The first batch of pancakes is on the griddle. I’ve got a spatula in my right hand and PDA in my left. I scan through emails from our Europe and Asia offices, and anyone in the U.S. who worked late last night. I send a few quick text messages as I flip pancakes and stir the eggs. I already responded to the Saturday and Sunday emails over the weekend. My PDA keeps me connected every day, and wherever I go.
6:30 AM
My oldest runs frantically through the house looking for his shoes, backpack, jacket and homework, trying to make the Jr. High bus at 6:40. He takes three quick bites of eggs, gushes down a glass of orange juice and heads out the door with three pancakes in his hand, mumbling a barely coherent good-bye and thank you. It brings back memories of when I worked in the office.
